The Rocky Hill Coal Project was the result of extensive exploration, geological modelling, mine planning and environmental studies of the Site and surrounding areas.

Below is an outline of the Government process followed by GRL in attempting to gain approval for the Project.

Extensive exploration, background and detailed investigations, project planning as well as local and wider community consultation.
  Completed Submit Request for Director-General’s Requirements and supporting documentation to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.
  Completed Refer the project to the Commonwealth Government in accordance with the requirements of the EPBC Act 1999.
  Completed Commonwealth Government determines if the Proposal is a controlled action under the EPBC Act 1999.
  Completed Department of Planning and Infrastructure issues Director-General’s Requirements for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
  Completed GRL lodge Development Application and EIS with Department of Planning and Infrastructure for acceptance by the Department.
  Completed Department of Planning and Infrastructure places Development Application and EIS on public exhibition.
  Completed GRL provides responses and clarification of issues arising from the exhibition of the EIS to the Department of Planning and Environment.
  Completed Assessment phase halted to enable detailed evaluation of new opportunities to change design for improved environmental and social outcomes
  Completed Agreement reached with Yancoal Australia to enable change to Project design
  Completed GRL reviews all studies and prepares amended EIS
  Completed GRL lodge amended Development Application and amended EIS with Department of Planning and Environment
  Completed Department of Planning and Environment places amended Development Application and EIS on public exhibition
  Completed GRL prepares responses and clarification of issues arising from the exhibition of the EIS to the Department of Planning and Environment.
  Completed Department of Planning and Environment completes its preliminary assessment report
  Completed Assessment process by Planning Assessment Commission (PAC)
  Completed  GRL appeals PAC decision within Land and Environment Court (LEC).
  Completed Assessment process by LEC. In Feb 2019 the LEC handed down its decision refusing the Rocky Hill Coal Mine. 

The Rocky Hill Coal Project will not proceed.
