The proposed Site for the Rocky Hill Coal Project covered an area of approximately 830ha, outside the Hunter Region town of Gloucester, north of Newcastle.

The Site comprised two main components

  • the Mine Area
  • a private haul road linking the Mine Area and the neighbouring Yancoal owned Stratford Mining Complex.

Access to the Mine Area was to be via The Bucketts Way, Jacks Road, Waukivory Road and McKinleys Lane to a private Mine Access Road.

Land within the Mine Area is either owned by GRL or under an option to purchase. Land along the private haul road route is owned by GRL or Yancoal Australia. The initial Project design was determined after extensive exploration, mine planning and environmental baseline and constraints studies so as to minimise impact, with refinements progressively introduced to reflect the outcomes of detailed impact assessment investigations. The agreement between GRL and Yancoal Australia enabled additional refinements to the Project to further minimise impacts.
